Making hardsub (hard subtitle) with VirtualDub. Especially if you wanna get best quality for your. Is any other software that can hardsub. Is there a program for mac other than handbrake which can convert an mkv with softsubs to an mkv or mp4 with hardsubs? Handbrake does a good job.

I found that a program called Handbrake.It will hard sub the stylized subs.I found that even though it can only convert to MP4s and MKVs I can always convert those AVIs. I find that Hardsubbed MKVs work better than MP4 with Alltoavi when I want to convert to avi. 1.Open up handbrake. 2.Drag your MKV to handbrake. 3.select your output settings container to Mp4 4.Look at the picture tab and make sure the top,bottom,left and right cropping is set to 0. If these numbers are not zero then click on custom and set them to zero.Because I have found that when these numbers are not zero the subs will jumble. 5.click on the Subtitles tab. 6.Look for where it says source and select your subtitle.

It may just say unknown SSA or unknown ASS or it may say English SSA or English ASS. If its a licensed anime with multiple subs you may have to play the anime on your pc first to see which subs are what so that you know whether or not you have to pick to the 1st,2nd or 3rd subs.

I don't mind watching it once like that, but when I keep it I would love to be able to make it in MP4 hardsubbed. I saw some post on internet saying Format Factory would work, same with Freemake video converter yet none of them seems to work. Or I just can't figure it out. Stylized subs are the subs with the fancy fonts, English names over the Japanese sign or the translator notes on top or the fancy karaoke. Handbrake handles most of those things. Sometimes depending on the presents you may have to rightclick in the subtitle section and click add remaining tracks. Plus extracting the sub track and adding it back in would do no good if Handbrake is not hardsubbing that subtitle format.. If there are no other fansubbed versions or encode version then you can try using this subtitle edit program to extract the subs,convert the subs and then use MKVmerge to merge the new subs with the mkv file.

Subtitle edit is pretty simply.when the program is installed, open it, and drag and drop in the MKV file.If there is more than one sub it will ask you to select a track.The import OCR window will pop up.Look on the right side and make the only thing checked is the OCR.Click for the 'Start OCR'button.This may take awhile depending on the amount of dialog in the subs. Once it is finished click okay.
